WORLDFALL Beta

A first-person mod for WorldBox

Worldfall

Beta · work in progress · new updates keep coming

Zoom in on anyone in your world and keep going, down through the trees and into their eyes.

Scroll to zoom in

  1. 1The map

Your world, the way WorldBox draws it.

  2. 2The world rises

Below zoom 60 the flat map lifts into 3D, built live from the same world: every tree, roof and hill.

  3. 3The magnet

Close in and the view takes hold of the villager nearest the middle of the screen.

  4. 4Over their shoulder

The wheel keeps going past the map's closest zoom, following them as they walk.

  5. 5Into their eyes

One more turn and the camera swoops in. Mouse to look, WASD to walk, G to let go.

Loading frames 0%

A scroll-driven sequence of real frames captured in WorldBox with Worldfall: the whole map, the camera closing in on a village as the flat map rises into 3D, the view locking onto a villager on the shore of a bay, and the dive into his eyes, ending in first person looking across the water and along the beach.

Free beta. No mod loader needed

Install Worldfall

One file in WorldBox's own mods folder. The mod is free; donations on Ko-fi are optional and don't unlock anything.

  1. In Steam, right-click WorldBox, then Manage > Browse local files.
  2. Open worldbox_Data\StreamingAssets\mods (make the mods folder if it isn't there).
  3. Put Worldfall.dll in that folder.
  4. Start WorldBox, open Settings and turn on Experimental Mode.
  5. Restart WorldBox.

Is it safe?

  • Only download it from this page. The zip holds three files: Worldfall.dll, an install guide and the licence. No installer, no mod loader, no admin rights.
  • It never goes online. The mod has no network code at all. It only runs inside WorldBox, and only writes its log, settings and screenshots to WorldBox's own save folder.
  • Why an antivirus might warn. To turn WASD into first-person movement, the mod changes a few of WorldBox's own functions in memory while the game runs. Some antivirus tools flag that technique. Nothing on disk is changed: delete the DLL and the game is back to normal.
  • Check your download. Compare its SHA-256 with these (Windows: certutil -hashfile Worldfall.zip SHA256), or scan it on virustotal.com.

This is a beta build, so you may run into bugs; reports on Discord help. WorldBox also turns Experimental Mode off after every game update: if the mod stops loading, turn it back on and restart.

Beta · work in progress

Still being built

Worldfall is in beta: an unfinished version that keeps getting updates with new creatures, places and things to do. Everything on this page is how it looks today. Expect bugs and rough edges, and expect it to keep changing.

All assets are subject to change: models, pictures, sounds and features may look and work differently in later updates.

Added lately

  • Eat when you're hungry: press J for food from your bag or your town's stores
  • Dragons as jointed 3D models that swoop, burn, land and sleep
  • Binoculars: hold Z and turn the wheel to look up to 12 times closer
  • Stars over the heads of people with work for you
  • Steadier, tear-free frames in first person
  • Land that keeps its shape after earthquakes and disasters

Dragons in 3D

Here be dragons

Dragons fly as jointed 3D models with living wings. They cruise over the land, swoop on a town breathing fire, land to burn what's left and sleep it off. Watch from a rooftop, or from the sky in the 3D god view.

Flat map, or the whole world in 3D

The 3D god view draws your map as the world it is, under the game's own buttons and powers. Drag across the picture: the same village at the same zoom, both straight from the game.

The village in the 3D god view: timber houses with teal roofs among green and autumn trees by the sea. The same village on WorldBox's flat map. Flat map3D view
Map zoom 26, the same moment. The 3D view fades in below zoom 60 and covers the map from 40 (both set in the F2 menu).

Disasters, up close

Be there when the sky falls

God powers land in 3D. Become Crabzilla and fire its claw lasers from its own eyes, or watch an atomic bomb's mushroom cloud climb over the sea from a mountainside.

Day and night

Day, sunset, after dark

The sun crosses the sky over a 20-minute day. Lived-in houses light their windows at night, fires and lava light everything near them, and the northern lights, comets and meteor showers come out over the sea. F7 holds the hour you like.

A camp of straw huts round a cooking fire under big trees by a beach, in daylight. The same camp at sunset, the sky orange behind the trees and the sea glittering. The same camp at night under the stars, the fire lighting the huts.

Some nights a comet hangs over the world.

Once you're in

Live their life, or end someone else's

Select any creature and press G, or zoom all the way in. Everything around you is the live world: the people go about their day, and what you do changes the map.

Talking to a villager on a beach at sunset; her reply in a panel: Keep your distance, outsider.

Talk to anyone

Press E for a whole conversation: their work, their family, the news, their king.

Inside a stone house: a table with a candle, a bed and a rug, sunlight through a small window.

Walk into their homes

Every house has a room inside, with its hearth and table and daylight through the windows.

An evil mage's fireball setting a street of houses ablaze.

Use your kind's power

X throws a bandit's firebomb, raises a necromancer's dead, casts an evil mage's fireball.

Villagers fighting orc raiders between houses at sunset, flames at the edges.

Fight where it happens

Swing at what's under the crosshair, kick, draw a bow. When raiders hit your town, you're standing in it.

At a ship's wheel off the coast at dusk, the town's stone houses on the shore.

Take the helm

Take over a ship and steer her yourself: W/S set the sails, A/D turn the wheel, Shift fills the sails with a gust.

A wolf's low view across a bay to pink blossom trees at golden hour.

Be anything

A wolf, a sheep, a skeleton, Crabzilla. Every creature you can possess, you can see through.

Draw distance: the whole map

All the way to the far shore

See 270 tiles out, or to the other side of the map (F6). Far mountains turn blue in the haze and the low sun lays a road of light across the sea.

Standing on a sandy shore at golden hour, the sun low over a glittering sea and a distant island.
A villager on the shore below his town, golden hour.
